Hanif Kureishi is a contemporary Bristish playwright, screenwriter and novelist.
He was born and brought up in Kent. His father was Pakistani and his mother English.
Hanif Kureishi read philosophy at King’s College, London, where he started writing plays. In 1981, he won an award for his play Outskirts and in 1982; he was appointed Writer in Residence at the Royal Court Theatre. In 1990, he was awarded the Whitbread Prize for Best First Novel for the Buddha of Suburbia. This novel has been translated into 20 languages and was made into a four-part drama series by the BBC.
