Dear [Mr or Mrs or Sirs], The consignment [références], consisting of twenty crates of [produits], was delivered to our premises on [date]. When we checked the crates, we found that three of them had been forced, that the [produits] inside were seriously damaged, and therefore unusable. We have immediately contacted our supplier, and he informed us that the goods were in perfect condition when they left their premises. Therefore, we assume that the damage occurred while the crates were being carried. We estimate the loss to be [montant].
