I was sitting there for at least 20 minutes. Was he going to come? That was the question I kept asking myself. Was it the right choice? Was I going to regret it? So many questions went through my mind at this moment. But it was. It was the right choice, and I’ll never regret it, I told myself decided. I took a deep breath and looked around me; I was sitting in my favourite café the “Phillies” a small but comfortable one. It was quiet, and I started to look outside. It was dark, no lights, nobody, it was like the city had stopped living. But I liked it, it was quiet, and I needed silence, because what I was going to do, who I was going to meet, was going to change my life…             As I started to feel better, I heard the door opening and closing. He had arrived. I took a deep breath and faced him.               - Hello sweetheart, he said all smiling.             - You came, I responded quickly.             - Of course, you called and here I am; he laughed.                         I smiled and kept quiet. The bar tender gave us both a coffee in a nice white cup. I could feel the heavy atmosphere. I wasn’t so comfortable in my café anymore.               - Who is he? He asked looking to a man in front of us.             - Jamie, I told him. He’s protecting me.             - Oh well. Have you thought of it? Are you still in?               And I could feel his eyes staring at me. I could feel his breath on my neck. I couldn’t go back.               - Yes, I said in a heartbeat. I’m still in, if you are?             - Ha-ha darling, please, he looked at me amused. You’re the one who’s hesitating,        I’m not.             - I’m not.             - You’re nervous; you’re blushing, you’re trembling. You’re hesitating because what you asked me to do to your own family is awful, he said as he was getting closer to my ear. You hired me to put an end at this, at your pain –he insisted on that word- but how about the collateral damage? He stopped for a second. Think of it, how’ll your daughter react when she’ll discover it? Will you be able to live in this world knowing that you’ve done something unfixable? He watched me, his eyebrow raising; Are you gonna give up now? Are you a coward? He gasped. Will you let this pain consumes you?               His words paralyzed me, my pulse was speeding up, my heart was racing, and I was there, sitting, and looking straight, while he was looking at me sideways. I couldn’t move, I was lost between my feelings. And before I realized anything, I heard myself saying “Do it!” with conviction. When I turned my head to look at him, he was already outside. And that’s when I realized that it was over, that I had signed somebody’s death, because he had left a note: Deal!

I could feel his breath on my neck.

I couldn't go back.

              - Yes, I said in a heartbeat.

I'm still in, if you are?             - Ha-ha darling, please, he looked at me amused.

You're the one who's hesitating,        I'm not.
