Introduction   La domination masculine was published in 1998, developed from an article of the same name published in 1990 in the Actes de la Recherché en Sciences Sociales. In this book, he articulates his theory of gender construction and the insidious power of masculine domination, an example of what he calls the paradox of doxa.   Prelude   From the prelude of the book, Bourdieu launches right away a paradox that he seeks to resolve: the paradox of doxa or what he alternatively calls, a «&n...

« lifestyle or a distinctive property in that this particular social relation becomes « extraordinarily ordinary. » In other words, symbolic violence is a tool in the arsenal of masculine domination that operates through the naturalization and the de-historicization of the doxa.    Following this part, Bourdieu expounds on the objective of this book: to « dismantle » this naturalization and reveal the 'paradox' in the paradox of doxa.

To do this, he says, one must take an anthropologist's perspective as it is through this angle that one can realize that the nomos  the principle of division is random and socio-logically necessary .

Bourdieu thus proposes to use ethnographic investigation as a kind of « laboratory experiment, » a tool of « socio-analysis of the androcentric unconscious » that enables the the anthropologist to objectify the embodied structures of the ?masculine order? in which he himself is entangled.  . »
