Salem’s Indian name was Naumkeag, “city of peace”, but it has long been known as “the witch city” because of the witch trials of 1692. Salem was a major seaport during the XVIII.th and XIX.th centuries. Today, Salem is internationally recognized as an American history treasure. It is a small, beautiful town on Massachusetts Bay, about 30 kilometers North of Boston. (Diapositive 1)
